Health is designed to help the student to gain an intelligent understanding of the human body and mind in order to maintain good health, and to create a desire to achieve the highest degree of physical and mental fitness. Instruction also includes CPR and First Aid training. -

Physical education classes stress individual and team sports, both indoor and outdoor. Fitness activities such as weight training, walking, jogging, general conditioning, and various types of recreational activities are emphasized which could include kickball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and wiffle ball. -

Weight training is an introductory course where a student would enroll in the Wildcat Lifting Program. Through weight training, a student will engage in a systematic plan of exercise that will result in positive strength and cardiovascular gains. This course will combine flexibility exercises, speed and agility training, and free weight lifting with the objective of developing an all-around explosive athlete which is the focus of this program.
Following successful completion of a semester in weight training, a student may elect to enroll in additional semesters of the course and continue to build on prior knowledge and physical goals. -

This elective course is designed to offer a “hands-on” approach to physical fitness, diet/nutrition, and total wellness. Students will participate in a variety of physical activities while monitoring their overall level of fitness on a weekly basis. Highlights include, but are not limited to, body composition & analysis, strength training, cardiovascular training, nutritional analysis, research based projects, motivation, injury prevention and care, as well as exploring current trends in fitness, wellness, & nutrition. The course will include a classroom component, as well as a fitness or “lab” component. -

Whether you have a desire to coach at the highest level, or simply envision yourself coaching a little league team in the future, “Principles of Coaching” will provide you with a foundation to get started. Since behaviors and habits are formed at a young age, it is important that individuals who interact with our youth are armed with the tools necessary to succeed. The scope of this course includes, but is not limited to, the development of a coaching philosophy, trends in coaching, defining “effective” coaching, technology in coaching, community/parent/media relations, opportunities in coaching, motivation of student-athletes, proper conditioning practices, coaching for character, ethics/integrity/sportsmanship, & effective practice planning. The course will include a classroom component, as well as a “lab” component. -

This course will expose students to the world of a sports official. Various sports such as basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, and football will be examined. The course will test not only your knowledge and physical skills, but also how you respond and handle people in a teaching environment that can sometimes become volatile and/or contested. You will learn about the career opportunities in becoming a sports official, as well as how to prepare for the state test to become a registered official.
