Full Year Course | Grades 12 | 2 Credits
Work-based learning experiences are conducted at a work site during or after school. They are designed to provide authentic learning experiences for students that link academic, technical and professional skills. Business and education partners work together to evaluate and supervise the experiences, which must be documented with training or learning plans and evaluation forms.
Work-based learning is a coordinated sequence of experiences designed to provide students with real-world learning through partnerships with local business and industry. Work-based learning gives students a first-hand view of the world of work. It introduces them to what it is like to work for an employer and perform job functions while reinforcing what they've learned in the classroom. It also allows employers to have a direct impact on developing their future workforce. Students must complete a work-based learning agreement and all necessary paperwork through the school counselor. An evaluation of the prospective work site will be conducted as part of the application process. Final authority for granting or revoking the work release privilege rests with the principal.
Students will be required to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Paystubs must be turned in by work release students every two weeks. Missing two paystub submissions will result in dismissal from the work release program and students will be re-enrolled in courses at NHS. Turning paystubs into the guidance office every two weeks is the responsibility of the work release student.
Hours converted to school credit are determined by ODEW.
