The Introduction to Band course is designed for students interested in learning a wind or percussion instrument. Students participating in this course will learn the fundamentals of reading musical notation and performing on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument of their choice. Prior to beginning the course, students must select an instrument on which to focus their efforts. Choices of school-owned instruments include: clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, and tuba. Students electing to begin learning percussion instruments will begin learning mallet instruments before moving onto drums.  Students interested in learning flute or saxophone must provide their own instruments. Beginning instrumental music books will be provided for students to learn. Students enrolling in this course will be expected to practice their instrument, play alone and with others during class time. Tests and homework will determine student grades. At the successful completion of the course, students will be invited to join the band program at their grade level.
