Honors Jazz Lab

The Honors Jazz Lab requirements will  include all the expectations of Jazz Lab. Students enrolled in the Honors portion of the course will be required to demonstrate their knowledge of all 12 major, dorian minor and dominant scales (6 fundamental scales per semester).  Students will be required to know the function of the scales/chords within the form of a given tune - minor, subdominant, and dominant and their uses. Students will be required to identify those chords within a given tune.  Students will be asked to aurally identify “standard” charts within the Jazz genre. These charts/recordings will be assigned by the instructor.  Students will frequently perform individually in front of the class. Practice will be necessary and documentation will be required.
